Spent the weekend at my parent's cabin. The time I spent there this weekend had me thinking about how special that place has been for our family. Though out the years it has been our escape from the general rat race of life; not to mention the years I spent on dialysis and the hell years of my kidney transplant (for those of you who don't know, that would be the first 3-4 years).
This time of year is especially exciting for us because it means opening up the cabin for the upcoming fishing season. Soon the boats will be in the water. Lazy days of fishing on the pontoon will begin. Perhaps a trip up do Duluth, or finding another place to go for a new adventure (hopefully that new adventure will involve lots of musky, coyote, fox, and especially (MOST especially) bear sightings.
Hope all of you have a place like this to escape to. If you don't yourself, I highly recommend renting a cabin out in the middle of no where for at least a week.
With that being said, it's Sunday evening and the rat race has once again began.

A word of warning...
Just a small post for the evening to let you all know that if you ever decide to start your own blog, do not, I repeat, do not, start it on a week night. I'm severely lacking in sleep due to ideas flowing through my head of things I should write about. The more I tried to stop the ideas from coming, they more they came. By this afternoon my eyes were starting to get closer together. Not only that, but I woke up not being able to remember any of the brilliant ideas that I thought of. BTW.....remind me tomorrow if I write about still being tired about the insane amounts of caffeine that I drank to try and function today. I have a feeling that when I try to fall asleep tonight I'm not going to be able to. I love irony.
TGIF?
If we're being completely honest, which is the whole point of doing this, Friday's are my least favorite day of the work week. Part of it may be from when I was working weekends at the shelter and Friday was the beginning of working 34 hours cram packed into three long days. It may also be because Friday's are my current weight watcher weigh in days, which haven't been friendly at all to me the last month or so (I really need to kick myself back into gear...but that's a blog for another time).
I think, however, the main reason why I'm not a fan of Friday is because working in a clinic (well, kind of), it is the slowest day of the week (now that I wrote that, all hell's going to break loose and my co-workers are going to want my head on a silver platter for jinxing it). I much prefer being busy than watching the hand slowly tick towards the end of the day. So, I've always liked working more towards the beginning of the week when our call volume is higher (All of a sudden, I'm having flashbacks of working in Neuro where everyone insisted on calling at 4:30 PM on Friday because they were completely zapped out of their medications and were in desperate need to have them filled so they wouldn't have seizures over the weekend. BTW.....if you're reading this, doctors tend to leave early on Fridays and they are required to sign your script. Please save your nurse a big ol' headache and find out you ran out of your meds before Friday afternoon.)
I've never quite understood why the work week works out the way it does. It seems as though over the weekend people all of a sudden realize they have medical or other issues and decide to call in first thing Monday morning. Could people really hate their jobs that much that they realize first thing in the morning that they are in need of help? Or is it that they cannot stand their families so over the weekend they realize they are in need? I'm hoping there is another less depressing weekend for the way the week always plays itself out.

Are you ready for some (kinda) football?!?
In the first day of my blogging I'm about to expose what a complete dork I am. If you're reading this, odds are you know me and the fact that I'm a dork isn't going to be a huge shock. As a result, I'm not hesitant to put illustrate that fact right out of the gate.
Today's the first day of the NFL draft. I don't watch college football religiously. I will put on my Wisconsin Badger and Georgia Bulldogs gear on and watch have a game on in the background while I mess around online. But, I'm not as intensely watching it as I will a Packer game. That doesn't stop me from throwing on my Packer gear and watching the entire draft as if I know whether or not the players being selected are good ones.
For the record (did I really just write that on my public blog?...I digress), I HATE the new draft schedule. I always looked forward to spending the weekend hanging out with my dad watching the draft together. I at least had a better clue as to what was going on since he's the one that gathers up all the predictions and statistics. Oh well, I'm about to head on a gmail chat with him, so we'll be watching together via online tools and we'll at least have this Saturday to watch Mr. Irrelevant be selected (always my favorite part. I love cheering for an underdog. )

Let the Games Begin...
I'm in the process of reading a book entitled "Blood, Sweat, and Tea" by Tom Reynolds. The book is composed of blog entries of the author's adventures as an ambulance driver in London. So far I've been amused by it and thought about the stories I could write about given my profession as a behavioral health specialist. However, given the pesky little thing called HIPPA and my need to keep my job in order to pay my rent, I decided that was probably not the best idea. I decided to keep the idea of doing a blog in a more general sense as an exercise in self-esteem and discovery. My hope is that this blog will help me to:
- see whether or not I have anything to say that people might be remotely interested in
- teach me to put my feelings out there without fear as to whether or not I'll be judged for them.
- prove that my life isn't as boring as I think it is some days.
Hope some of you will join me in this little adventure, and that, perhaps, I can amuse you along the way. :)
